Marathon Mind:
Now that you are in your last few weeks before your Marathon, and are tapering down, here are some tips:
-Run in the shoes you plan to run in beforehand.
-run in the kit you plan to run in beforehand, so you know if there is anything that could rub or cause friction, (26 m later it could become very sore) and remedy it in your training run.
-men may want to plaster their nipples, runners’ nipple is painful and not the sort of thing you want to focus on in the latter half of your run
-drink a lot of water up to two days before the race
-also have your last big meals two days before
-sleep well two days before the race
-watch out where you walk/run at the start, there are a lot of you!
-run one or more miles at a time, so that 26 could be 5 times a five mile run and a 1 mile sprint (ie chunk it!)
-pace yourself, you ARE running 26.2 miles
-use your incantations!
-“nothing in life has any meaning except the meaning you give it. If you don’t like the way you’re feeling, change the meaning.” (Anthony Robbins)
-always envision your success, practise the smile you will run (!) over the finish line with
-remember your purpose - if you have a big enough why, the what and how will follow
-if you get lousy answers, ask better questions
-plan now to celebrate after, what you will have achieved is OUTSTANDING, you will want to anchor that feeling!
-plan for your body to recover with a lot of water (& greens?), great food, rest and gentle exercise
